“Traditions, when you recognize them, are 100% free.” ~John Currence (James Beard Nominated Chef)
The idea to create Traditions was born out of a conversation about one of the most loyal and rabid tribalistic groups that exists – college graduates. The premise was that if you strip away the classes, sports, fraternities and all of the other common college experiences, what you’d find underneath were unique traditions that only graduates of that particular college would have experienced. The job of Traditions was to unearth these experiences and share with the viewing audience.
The pilot episode was shot in Oxford, MS, home of Ole Miss. Each episode begins with a 10,000-foot view from the local court expert. Every college town has one. The expert sets the stage for the four areas that the audience will be educated on – Food, culture, history, and dealer’s choice (unique to each college).
Once the preliminary segments were completed, the host would indulge in that college’s tradition. In the case of Ole Miss, it was a tailgate in the Grove.
For Traditions, I co-wrote, shot and produced the episode in cooperation with Air Extreme Productions.
